Wimbledon Embraces Video Review System in 2025.

The Championships court with replay system

The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.

Video review systems are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Players will gain the ability to contest particular rulings from the chair umpire, following the practice already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This development follows just a season following the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.

Practical Application

A recent incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.

Other Changes

Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
