Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
